I am sitting for my addiction medicine boards in October 2022. Helping people with substance use disorder is a passion of mine. Like so many others, substance use disorder hits close to home for me. I have devoted a significant portion of my career studying addiction medicine principles and keeping up to date with the most recent studies and advances in treatment. This is another new growing area of studying.

The term “addiction” has become to have a negative connotation. Having an addiction essentially means there is an uncontrolled use of a substance.

Currently, there is an opioid epidemic that has been ongoing for more than the past decade.
